What We Value

"A society looking up to athletes as heroes must find heroes looking up to God." -Wendel Deyo

Values

The following are the core beliefs of EPIC based on the foundational truths taught in the bible.  We carry these with us in competition and everyday in our community.

UNITY

We believe we should be united and work together on and off the field of competition. Sports unite people from all backgrounds who love to compete and support their favorite team or athlete. Teamwork teaches us how individuals can come together and work towards a common goal.
Philippians 2:1-5
“ So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,”

IMPROVMENT

We believe that we can always strive to better people, teammates, and competitors. No matter if you play as an individual or team, competition shows our practice of improving and further trains us in difficult situations.
Proverbs 21:17
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”

CONNECTION

We believe that we are made for community. Connecting with others gives us belonging and a tribe to walk through life with. Wearing a jersey as a player or fan pulls us into greater connection with others across all walks of life. Ultimately a relationship with Jesus giving us complete fullness in all that we do.
1 John 1:7
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

HUMILITY

We believe sports gives us an opportunity be a part of something bigger than ourselves. A good teammate is not focused on themselves and selfish gain. They do the best in their role for the success of the team.
1 Peter 5: 6-7
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."

PURPOSE

We believe we are made with purpose. Finding direction in life can be hard. Much like sports gives us parameters and a playbook, God gives us guidance for life.
Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Ephesians 2:10
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

SERVICE

We believe we are called to serve. There are so many sports that require different skillsets across a variety of roles. Each of us are given specific gifts that are ours to give freely to others, both on our team and in life.  Serving in humility to glorify God and not ourselves.
Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Jesus Christ.”

BE A LIGHT

We believe that we are called to be a light in dark places. Pull up social media or turn on your TV and you will be flooded with the weight of negativity and discourse. Hope is found in Jesus and we get the opportunity to tell everyone on our team and in our everyday lives.
Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
